  • RICHLAND — Retired former local prison warden Carol Howes has died at age 79 in Richland. Born in Kalamazoo on March 1, 1941, she was a 1959 graduate of WK Kellogg High School. Carol earned master's degrees from Western Michigan University in history and education. Carol also volunteered in the Peace Corps in Nigeria from 1968-1970.
  • A fox that was acting erratically was put down by a game warden Saturday afternoon in Spring Township, officials from the state Game Commission said Tuesday. The commission received a report of two foxes that appeared disoriented and acting aggressively, and a game warden responded to the 1900 block of Reading Avenue.
